In memoriam of Urj Hauser and Carlo Aloë (†) The Atelierhaus Klingental - Förderateliers Klingentalkirche is managed by the Department of Culture Basel-Stadt. The monastery church of the Dominicans, consecrated around 1293, is one of the largest surviving mendicant churches on the Upper Rhine. The church, which was later used as a warehouse, barracks and then as a studio, was included in the very first list of protected monuments in Basel in 1915. The Klingental Church has been used for artist studios since the 1960s. After several years of renovation, the Klingentalkirche has been used again as a studio building since September 2020, offering space for 30 studios. Born in Zaandam, the Netherlands, 14 oktober 1977. Lives and works in Koog aan de Zaan, The Netherlands. Ruth van Beek graduated in 2002 at Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam following a Master in Photography. Her work was presented in several solo and group exhibition in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Berlin, Austin, Newyork and Beijing. Works have been published online and in magazines worldwide such as such as Time Magazine, Capricious, Foam Magazine, Fantom Magazine, Rodeo, It's Nice That, and recently in the British Journal of Photography where she has been selected as one of BJP's 20 photographers to watch in 2013. She published two books at RVB BOOKS in Paris, 'The Hibernators' (2011) and 'The Arrangement' (2013) A series of ongoing publications called 'The Manual' is published in collaboration with Centerfold Editions. Currently represented by The Ravestijn Gallery in Amsterdam.

Sarah Bernauer, *1981 (CH), lives and works in Berlin und Basel. Studied Multimedia and Fine Arts in Basel (Academy of Art and Design) and Vienna (University of applied Arts) and works as a writer and artist. Her work has been shown in festivals and art spaces across Europe, including Outsider Art Fair (Paris), Les Urbaines (Lausanne), Bone Festival (Bern), Stadtmusik Festival Basel, Kunsthalle Basel, Kunstverein Heidelberg, Centre Pasquart (Biel), Lower Austria Contemporary (St. Pölten). Beside her personal work Bernauer initiated artist projects and conceptual exhibition formats like Radio Désir, A Word For A Play Or Art Entertainment and 'Desire'.

Curated by Weekly is a digital art project. It aims to raise questions regarding online formats, web-based distribution and the acceleration of digital platforms in contemporary art. In a society of increasing dematerialization, the art object has had its own revival in traditional exhibition rooms. ‘Curated by Weekly’ is a website and a magazine. In cooperation with individuals from the art scene, a new artwork is published online every week. The piece is only be available for 7 days, with no archive or chance to see it again. While trying to generate a self reflective perspective, the complementary magazine is released in irregular formats, the experiences of digital curation and the questions about media and matter in the post-analogue space.

We encourage dialogue within the field of contemporary jewellery, search for common subjects connecting it to other disciplines and initiate dynamic cross-overs and collaborations with fields of art, design and fashion. The #4 issue’s Supernatural theme revived on December 19th 2015. Invited artists practiced, discussed and performed what they preach, bringing the ultimate Ooga Booga Experience. Contributing artists Michal Avraham and Borch Socher, Anna Bak, Brynjar Sigurðarson, Echo + Seashell, Jasper Griepink and Janneke Raaphorst, Pieter Paul Pothoven, Vann Kwok, Octave Vandeweghe. Initiated by Current Obsession. Curated in collaboration with Anneleen Swillen. Experience Ooga Booga took place on Saturday 19th of December from 13 pm till 10 pm at STUDIO 47, Amsterdam.

Fernández Fuentes (1980 - 2017) studied in Barcelona and London before graduating in 2008 from the Graphic Design department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Since then he has worked as an autonomous graphic designer, often in collaboration with artists, photographers and other designers. In 2012 he founded his publishing imprint Centerfold Editions, with a focus on artist’s multiples and short-run releases.

formic is an exhibition space presenting works by contemporary artists for a colony of European fire ants. The space is a glass cube measuring 25 x 15 x 15 cm located between the ant colony and a feeding area. It can be visited by the ants 24/7. The exhibition primarily addressed the ants and their perception, however, humans are invited to experience a visual documentation online where each installation can be visually explored in the smallest detail. The website also functions as an archive, constantly growing by each contribution. For the feature at studio-47.org, the exhibition space is presented through a live streamed video, where humans are able to follow the art and the visiting ants 24/7. formic was established early 2015 and is run and curated by David Stjernholm.

Marieke Gelissen is a video and performance artist based in Amsterdam. She graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam in 2012, with an installation of videos and photos relating to the physical relation between the body and the object. Her work was exhibited in Amsterdam, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, Berlin, Salisbury and Zürich. A series of photos was published in Ei Magazine and Prism Photo Magazine. In 2013 she received a talent grant from the Mondriaan Fund and her work was exhibited in the Prospects & Concepts exhibition at Art Rotterdam 2014. In 2014 she had a solo show at Gallery Percipi in Amsterdam, and she realized her first work in public space: Parallel Paper Tunnel, a giant photograph in the underpass of the train station in Zürich, Switzerland. Her work was acquired by private collectors in the Netherlands and Belgium, and by the collection of Deutsche Bank.

Buenos Aires, 1988. Sonia de Jager is a Rotterdam-based researcher working at the intersection between philosophy of technology and cultural analysis.Graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2011, and from Universiteit Leiden in 2015, de Jager has developed a number of projects, both 'artistic' as well as 'academic', focused on subjects ranging from visualization matters in high-energy physics laboratories, to the philosophical implications of possible artificial intelligences, to the endlessly debatable nature of our technological situation. Most recently de Jager's work has centred around issues of originality, the putative digitalanalog divide, and questions that interrogate the creative platform facilitated by the technologies of contemporary art. It is here at these latest developments that the possibility of a collaboration with STUDIO 47 emerged.

Johanna Kotlaris (1988, CH) is based in Rotterdam and Zürich. She holds a BA Graphic Design from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and is currently completing her MA Fine Art at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Her practice comprises photography, video, installation, sculpture, performance and sound. Her work has been shown at National Gallery of Art Vilnius, Museo d’Arte della Svizzera Italiana Lugano, Dienstgabäude Zürich, Kunsthaus Langenthal, The New Gallery Calgary, Stadtgalerie Bern, Schwarzwaldallee Basel, Castrum Peregrini Amsterdam and more. In 2013 she was awarded with the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Award, the Young Photography Talent Fellowship by Pro Helvetia in 2014, the Patronage Fund for young Swiss artists by Basler Kunstverein in 2017 and was shortlisted for the Migros Ticino Artistic Creation Award and the VFG Young Swiss Talent Award in 2016.

Eva-Fiore Kovacovsky, born 1980 in Bern, Switzerland lives and works in Amsterdam and Berlin. She studied Design at the Schule für Gestaltung in Basel (1997-2002) and received a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in 2006 from the Photography Department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. She had solo presentations at Aargauer Kunsthaus (CH), Malonioji 6 in Vilnius, (LT), Kunstvereiniging Diepenheim, (NL), Galerie STAMPA, Basel (CH) and Van Zoetendaal Collections in Amsterdam (NL). Her work was featured in group shows in Europe, Russia and the US, among others in Kunsthaus Langenthal (CH), Studio 2o46, Berlin, MAMM, Moscow, Foam, Amsterdam, CentrePasquArt, Biel, Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam, Croxhapox, Gent, (BE), New York Photography Festival, Rietveld Arsenale, Venice, Higher Pictures Gallery, New York and Kunsthalle Basel. Laura Lienhard (1983) is an actress. She studied German philology and cultural anthropology at the University of Basel, followed by studies at the École Internationale de Théâtre Jacques Lecoq in Paris. She has appeared in various independent theater productions since 1993. 2005 Prize from the Schaffhausen Bookstores for the text and drama of “The Caravan Woman”, based on a story by Alberto Nessi. 2013 sponsorship award from the canton of Schaffhausen for the work of “We Ate Lobster”. She works as a freelance actress, performer and speaker in German, Italian and French.

Céline Manz (1981, CH) is a research-based multidisciplinary artist and founder of STUDIO 47 and STUDIO 47 PRESS. She received an education as bookseller and studied photography in Switzerland before she graduated from the Photography Department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 2013, followed by an MA in Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art in London in 2019. In 2014, Manz was granted the 3Package Deal by the Amsterdam fonds for the Arts (AFK) and Bureau Broedplaatsen, which made STUDIO 47 possible. She is currently living in Basel.

Hanna Mattes, 1980, currently lives and works in Berlin and Amsterdam. She completed her studies at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam in 2006 (BFA) and was nominated for both the Rietveld Prize and the Art Olive Prize for young artists. Mattes had solo shows at The Centre for Photography in Amsterdam and Gallery Kampl in Munich. She has exhibited in group shows in Huis Marseille in Amsterdam, in Belmacz Gallery in London, the Kunsthaus in Essen, LMCC in New York and Galerie im Saalbau in Berlin. She has been granted stipends by Mondriaan Fonds, Amsterdam Fund for the Arts, Kulturbehörde Hamburg and Stichting Stokroos. In addition, she initiated several curatorial projects, amongst them Dead Darlings together with Tania Theodorou."Occupational Hazard" is a project with and about artists with jobs – touching on related subjects such as the curious economy and value system of the arts, raising questions concerning it's nature: a profession, a vocation or a life-style? This is an ongoing investigation manifesting itself in conversations, exhibitions, auctions and other means of communication. Hanna Mattes also initiated and is the curator of the event series "Match", in which a visual artist and a writer (or text based artist) present their work together.

Noor Nuyten (Groningen, 1986) is an artist living and working in Amsterdam. She finished her postgraduate program at the HISK in Gent (BE) in 2012 and got her bachelor's degree at the Academie Minerva, Groningen in 2009. She recently finished her guest residence at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. Her works are regularly included in exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad. The 1985 born artist lives and works in Vienna (AT) and Basel (CH). She completed her BA Fine Arts from the Hochschule der Künste in Bern in 2009. Following one year (2010-2011) as a guest student at the Städelschule Frankfurt under Professor Judith Hopf, she went to Paris in 2011 for a studio residency. Since 2014 she is part of the artist-run space Schwarzwaldallee in Basel. Found and own images and texts connect easily into open story lines. Her works have been shown internationally i.a. Giulia Shah (1987, NL) investigates relevant crossovers and the implied oppositions between high and low culture, private and public domain, moving and still image and the personal and collective memory.She is mainly interested in the everyday consumption of images, today and throughout history. Her work is often not focusing on her own photographic images, but instead she performs as an archivist of existing material. Throughout this investigation she doesn’t value images for their unique qualities but finds substance in their reproducibility and collectiveness. Giulia Shah graduated with a BA from the photography department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and is currently studying for her MFA at Chelsea College of Arts in London.

Rebecca Stephany (b.1980, Germany) is an artist, researcher and educator living and working in Amsterdam. Oscillating between the field of art and design, Stephany’s most recent work probes the figure of the artist, and her body specifically, as the main site for creative self-exploitation and self-realization. In 2010 and 2011, Stephany was artist-in-residence at Rijksakademie Amsterdam, in spring 2013 visiting artist at CCS Bard (Center for Curatorial Studies) in Upstate New York. Recent exhibitions include Unless Otherwise Noted, CCS Bard (US), Gibst du mir Steine, Geb ich dir Sand, Performance Project Liste 17, Basel (CH), NO DANCING, Favorite Goods, Los Angeles (US). Stephany has taught at the graphic design department of Gerrit Rietveld Academie since 2007 and has given lectures and workshops throughout Germany, Switzerland and the United States, including A New Divide? Social and Economic Challenges in Contemporary Design, a symposium at Goethe-Institut Amsterdam/GFZK Leipzig, Everything But The Thing, Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (GER), Spektakel – Angewandte Freiheit, Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design (GER) and Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht (NL). Stephany graduated from the Graphic Design Department of Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2006 and has finished her Master in Critical Studies at Sandberg Institute Amsterdam in 2015. She is currently a professor in the Department of Visual Communication at the University of Arts and Design Karlsruhe.

David Stjernholm, born in Copenhagen, Denmark, 1986. Lives and works in Copenhagen. Currently enrolled at the MFA at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Visual Arts. Holds a BA in Architecture from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture. Often David Stjernholm examines and questions different aspects of the digital age, seeking to unravel and demystify processes and layers in the internet’s many cultural formats and spaces. Stjernholm is interested in the ways systems function, picking up research material such as spam mails, data streams and following their unexpected paths into the depths of the dark internet.
